Important Information About Mass Intentions
1. Mass Intentions can be celebrated in memory of a deceased loved one or for a special intention such as healing, a wedding anniversary, etc. The stipend for intentions in the Diocese of Pittsburgh is $10.00 per intention.
2. According to Canon Law, the pastor must pray a Pro-Popolo (Latin “For the People”) intention every Sunday. That is why you see an intention “For the People of Holy Sepulcher Parish” every weekend in the bulletin.
3. According to Canon Law, a parish cannot accept more Mass Intentions than they can satisfy in the context of a calendar year. Therefore, parishes are not permitted to keep a back log of unsatisfied intentions. Additional intentions received from funeral homes must be sent to the Seminary or to the Mission Office of the Diocese so that they may be satisfied by other priests at Mass.
4. Starting January 1, 2012, Mass Intentions cannot be given for Easter (Vigil) Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas (Eve) Day, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.
5. In order to give every family an opportunity to schedule intentions, families will only be able to choose ONE Sunday and TWO Weekday Mass Intentions. This includes the Life Teen Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month (Sept.-May). Sunday Mass Intentions fill very quickly and everyone must have a fair chance at reserving one.
6. Mass Intentions for 2012 will be filled on a first-come basis, which is why it is important to date your request form.
7. Mass Intentions will not be scheduled without your $10.00 stipend.
8. Mass Intentions will not be scheduled over the phone nor will they be accepted through email. Mass Intention Forms can be found in the bulletin this Sunday, in the Narthex, in the Parish Office and on our website. The Mass Intention Book opens October 3rd.
